After having no sleep last night I arose early anyway determined to get a lot done today. First , when I had the shampoo in my hair during my shower, the water just stopped for about 5 mins. (David has been trying to fix it.) Then I left the house to grocery shop while it was still relatively cool. As I was leaving the Food Lion there was a young couple sitting on a bench just inside the store, cussing each other at the top of their lungs. Apparently he was a "gansta" , because that's what she said. "I know you are a !!!! gansta , but I ain"t !!!!! scaird of you . " Well you better be cause I'm gonna knock the !!!!!!!!!out of you. Well, I walked past them and gave them a look. Next thing I knew he had her outside and slammed her up against the brick wall. Then she hit him....... Etc. Well I had to say or do something. So I stopped my buggy and asked her if she was alright. She said she was. I asked her if she needed any help. No,she said . I don't know what I could have done to help, I didn't even have my phone on me. Then I thought, if I have to I will pitch this gallon of milk at him. (Yeah, can you hear me trying to explain to my Dr. how I tore my other shoulder ? ...slinging a jug of milk at a gangsta.)
What do I think I was gonna do with that jug......Got Milk ...Pow!!!???
Well, she went out to her car and he stayed at the store. So I went on out to my car. Surprise!!!! Flat tire! (Flat NEW tire )
Back into the the store with my buggy. In the mean time the couple had returned to the bench inside the store. As I walked past them I gave him a look...but they were busy with their "sweet talk" again. But, at a slightly lower volume.
By the way I did not have my cell phone on me. So I got one of the FL boys to put my whole buggy in the store cooler and used the phone at the service desk. I knew where David was, but he didn't answer his phone.
Then two nice young FL men said they would change my tire. As we walked past the couple I gave them my look. (I really wanted to do that sign thing with your fingers to your eyes, but I could not remember which way to point your fingers...you know, the one that means "I'm watching you!"
It must have been a hundred degrees out in that parking lot, but I had parked in a shady spot. Those poor boys would have burned up if I hadn't!
Oh how grateful I am for their help ! So, tire was fixed now . Back into the store, gave my "look",collected my buggy from the cooler and entertained the couple with another "look"
By this time it was almost one. I started feeling faint and sick. (And starting to hurt.) I had not had any thing to eat. Thought a quick trip to the Bojangle's would fix that. OOPS,my gas light was on.
I was not about to drive down 601 with a wonky spare tire and the gas light on. I had to get my food and get to the place where I knew my dear hubby was before he left. And did I mention it was hot?!
How did all this turn out? Got my food and a big ole sweet tea (and the same for David in case I was able to get up with him) Yes, I caught him just as he was leaving, he followed me to the gas station, pumped my gas for me and followed me home.
I don't know about the young couple. And I don't understand why people just walked past without even looking at them. So sad, we live in a fallen world. But I do know that even the "little" mercies of the day was planed by my Father in Heaven. Sometimes when we are going through a lot, and our faith is low, God shows us protection, kindness from others, shade from a tree and a loving husband ...these are from His loving hands and "great is His faithfulnes to me."

MRI Results .... Please pray.
Over a week ago I had a MRI taken of my right shoulder. (And I would like to say something about an "open" MRI, but I really did not think it was so open. Enough said.......!!! and yes I took both the little pills that my Dr. gave me.)
Okay, results: Of the the four thingys in my rotator cuff, one was just fine. One was torn about 50% and the other two 100%. And there is a bone spur and I tore my bicep tendon 100%. Dr. said I would HAVE to have surgery or I would lose the function of my arm.
The injury happened about six weeks ago and I will not get in to see a surgeon until Aug. 2. The nurse told me today that they are already scheduling two to three weeks out.
I am in a lot of pain and am trying not to use that arm. (But I can still type pretty good.)
Please pray that they can get me in soon and that it will not get worse in the meantime.

My sweet mother and my sisters
While looking through boxes of old photos, I found these photos of my mom. Mother had Parkinsons disease and one of the side effects is a "mask " like face -an inability to smile. One of the things I loved about her was her sense of humor. She and I had some wonderful funny, joyful times together . I missed her smile so much ! What a gift it is to see these old photos of her smile.
The other photo is of my sisters and myself. It was taken in 1978. The year Anna was born. (Note how we all have our hair parted down the middle.) This pix and most of the late 70s and 80s have all turned red. Anna is scanning them for me and I am planing on redoing them in black and white , just as I did this one.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake on the Food Network
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake on the Food Network
Okay, What's more southern than peanuts ? Nigella may be Italian, but she can make deserts like a " suthern gal " !!! I haven't tried this yet, but since We got our HUGE can of Peter Pan last week I just might have a go ! (By the way Walmart sells these huge cans and it is a lot cheaper to buy in bulk. )

Grits Worth Kissin’: Southern Favorite Boasts Universal Appeal | Janet's Notebook | Just A Pinch Recipe Club
Grits Worth Kissin’: Southern Favorite Boasts Universal Appeal | Janet's Notebook | Just A Pinch Recipe Club
( Thought ya'll might like this explanation of cooking grits.)
( Thought ya'll might like this explanation of cooking grits.)
Were you born at the North Pole ? Then you ain't a Southern lady !!
Although this blog is mostly about " girls raised in the south " it does not exclude those who were raised North , East or West of the Mason Dixon line. God willed that I should be born in North Carolina. And here I am. And I was mostly "raised in the South, but have lived in several states, including California and Texas. Once I spent three years in Scotland.
So, is being a grit something special ? Naw!! It is just fun calling myself a grit ! I could have just as much fun calling myself a grin ! Except most grins have never tasted a grit and would not know how to cook them. And I love grits especially with LOTS of butter !!
Anyway, my point is, that no matter where we live or where we were born it is all according to God's plan . " For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful. I know that full well." Psalm 139:13 and 14

Aunt Mary's Journals
When my husband's aunt passed away in the 1990s, she left behind a box of small diaries. David and I were given seven of these little books.Mary was a simple, God-fearing woman. She was quiet and rarely expressed herself on any subject of discussion and kept her feelings close to her own chest. But day by day she would record the high points of her life. What a delight it has been to see how she went about in her quiet way at the same time rejoicing in the work of her hands that God had established for her !
"May the favor of our God rest upon us ; establish the work of our hands for us, yes, establish the works of our hands." Psalm 90:17
I plan on sharing her journals here on this blog. And I pray that you will see her love for God, family , friends ,her strength and in her own way , wisdom .

Beauty of Dewees Island
Some of our dear friends are spending their vacation on this lovely island near Charleston S. C. What a beautiful place !
Visit to the Sports Medicene doctor.
Well, I guess I shouldn't have slung that big ole bag of garbage up into the back of Dave's truck. That was about four weeks ago. And yes, I tore my rotater cuff. And I have a level three bone spur. MRI next week. (An OPEN MRI. They would have to knock me out if it was the confining kind.) I did a "doodle" (a drawing) while I was waiting at the Dr. office. When I figure out how to post photos, I will put some here.
Miss Scarlett and Prissy
I can just hear Prissy tellin Mis Scarlett that she don no nothin about writing no blog and Mis Scarlett fervently proclaiming that she would think about that tomorrow!!! Well I am taking the plunge today and so far have been able to figure things out .( thus far ). (everything by the grace of God.) So what is this blog going to be about and who will my readers be ? Don't know ! I will think about that tomorrow.
In the mean time ,how many times have my readers seen Gone with The Wind.? Do you think Katey Scarlett is your typical idea of a Grit? I love G.T.W. And I have probably seen it 30 times. I even saw it once in a famous movie theater in Atlanta.
